A Manifesto on Faith
It will
start as a plain conduct of morality. You will claim that yes, there is a God
and you are a believer. You will hear a couple of verses every now and then.
Perhaps you will get yourself a bible too. You will rest in an assurance that
you have a thorough knowledge of what is good and bad, in fact you believe that
you always had. Sure, you will make an effort of removing a couple of undesirable
things out of your life. You will try to get rid of some unkind attitude. You
will avoid some cursing habit and maybe lend a few bucks to the homeless
too. You will be determined of living
out a righteous, acceptable life but this will not hide you into oblivion from
the real intents of your heart. You will fail every single day and this will
only reveal how much of a sinner you are. In this circumstance, you will truly
begin to know the Supreme Being you are praying to. For as the stars are only
seen in the dark, God’s goodness is glorified in the midst of your inequities.
His patience, His provisions and His forgiveness are brought to light in your shortcomings.
You will feel God’s grace upon your life, a favor you do not deserve. You will
embrace this grace and from here on acknowledge that apart from Him there is
nothing you can sustain to do. The next thing you’ll know is that you are
already plunging yourself into deeper faith and John 14:6 is making more sense
than it ever did. You will still fail him and your flaws will still be far too
visible, but it is through His eyes you will see your worth and through His
strength you will keep on living a life He pleases. You will see pure
Christianity. It is not about your righteousness but God’s. It is not by law
but by grace. It is not a call to abide with society’s dictate on morality but
a call to experience genuine faith.
“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith –and
this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God” Ephesians 2:8
