What Could Have Israel Been Like

I found myself on my knees one night, desperately asking for something I wanted so bad. I was determined: That perhaps my Most Loving Father would make an exemption for me out of His abundant grace. On the contrary, I was also restrained: That I wouldn't want to disobey His will either. So I pleaded.

God, perhaps You would allow...

Perhaps there is a way to make this happen..
Perhaps You would consider what I want..

My idea of what I want was good. And I was almost willing to settle with that until the Word came in with a strog conviction, and most of all, comfort: That while what I have for me is good, what God has for me is the best.

The Spirit led me to 1Samuel 8, "Israel Asks for A King".

Spontaneous poetry is one of the ways I express what God impresses to me through the Truth. That night, I was greatly inspired to write this as I concluded; not to ask for a king, not to have it my own way, not to build my own kingdom--
for He is the King and His is the kingdom.

What could have Israel been like
If they didn't ask for a king
Could they have lived better lives
~And save their sons' breath
Who have fallen from the war
~And save their daughters' integrity
Whose hands were bruised
As much as their hearts were..

What could have Israel been like

If they didn't insist
To be just like every other nation
And embrace every bit
Of their special difference

Could they have dwelled in a better place

If they didn't repeat their ancestors mistake.
Could they have ran across the pastures
In the land of flowing honey and milk

What could have Israel been like

If they didn't ask for a king
I wouldn't ask for a king...

Oh daughters of Jerusalem,

Do not ask for a king...
